The third arrangement works because the statement of the middle person - Ms. Anderson, who never tells the truth - is false. Also, the statement of the person on the right - Ms. Thompson, who always tells the truth - is true. The remaining position does not determine any additional information, as Ms. Johnson sometimes tells the truth and may or may not be in this case. From Bubba - 9/17/06 6:58 PM

TJA- Thompson never lies and the woman on the right says she is in the middle. TAJ- Thompson never lies and the woman on the left says she is in the middle. JTA- Not possible because Ms. Thompson never lies. JAT- Possible because Anderson is in the middle and Thompson never lies and Johnson lies sometimes. AJT- Ms. Anderson never tells the truth. ATJ- Not possible because Thompson is in the middle and we know that she is on the left and Ms. Anderson never tells the truth. From Lost - 9/4/06 3:17 PM

For everyone following, put your reasons in the table under the 4th column. From BlondeGirl - 9/4/06 10:07 AM
TAJ – If Mrs. Thompson is on the left, and she says the lady in the middle is Mrs. Thompson then this configuration isn’t possible because Mrs. Thompson always tells the truth.
JAT – If Mrs. Johnson is on the left, she sometimes tells the truth – so if she says Mrs. Thompson is in the middle, then it’s possible. If the woman on the right is Mrs. Thompson and she says that Mrs. Anderson is in the middle, she always tells the truth that leaves this as an open possibility
TJA – If Mrs. Thompson is on the left, and she says the Mrs. Thompson is in the middle, she always tells the truth – this is not possible.
AJT – If Mrs. Anderson is on the left, and she says that Mrs. Thompson is in the middle, she never tells the truth – this is not possible.
ATJ – If Mrs. Anderson is on the left, and she says that Mrs. Thompson is in the middle, she never tells the truth – this is not possible.
JTA – If mrs Johnson sometimes tells the truth and she says that Mrs. Thompson is in the middle, then this is a possibility – so if the lady in the middle says I’m Mrs. Johnson and she is Mrs. Thompson who always tells the truth then that rules this combination out. From Spartan - 9/4/06 9:36 AM
TJA- Ms. Thompson always tells the truth, so she cannot be he lady on the left, because the lady on the left says that Ms. Thompson is in the middle, and we know she is not. JTA- Ms. Thompson can't be in the middle because she always tells the truth. The lady on the left says Ms. Thompson is in the middle, but the lady in the middle says she is Ms. Johnson. AJT- We have figured out now that Ms. Thompson is on the right, and she never lies. The lady in the right says that Ms. Anderson is in the middle, not Johnson. TAJ- This will not work just like arrangement TJA, cause Thompson cannot be in the left or middle. ATJ- Ms. Thompson is not in the middle per reason JTA. JAT- This is the right placement, Thompson tells the truth, and we have established that she is on the right, she says that Anderson is in the middle, so that leaves Johnson on the left. From Houdini - 9/3/06 10:23 PM
1. ATJ- The woman in the middle says I'm Ms. Anderson, and since Ms. Thompson always tells the truth, she can not be in the middle. 2. AJT- The woman on the right say that Ms. Anderson is in the middle, again Ms. Thompson never lies. Therefore Ms. Johnson can not be in the middle. 3. JAT- The woman on the right says Ms. Anderson is in the middle, Ms. Thompson never lies. The woman on the left says Ms. Thompson is in the middle, But Ms. Johnson sometimes lies. And Ms. Anderson always lies by saying that she is Ms. Johnson. This is their correct placement. 4. JTA- The woman in the middle says I'm Ms. Johnson, but Ms. Thompson never lies. 5. TAJ- The woman on the left says Ms. Thompson is in the middle, but Ms. Thompson never lies. 6. TJA- Again the woman on the left says Ms. Thompson is in the middle, and again Ms. Thompson never lies.
