8-Car Adder
8-CAR ADDER
If you build it, they will sum.
ASSIGNMENT
Assume the 8-Car Adder board above links 8 implementations of your successfully completed Carry In and Carry Out assignments. Your task is to place all the necessary component parts in their respective slots. The dark square, you should assume, represents a box for a workable Carry In implementation. It fits in the slots labelled SUM. The longer dark rectangle represents a box for a workable Carry Out implementation. It fits in the slots labelled CARRY. The colored circles represent light emitting diodes—tiny light bulbs that represent the output from these boxes. OFF when 0, and ON when 1. The Green and Blue turn on when clicked. They are the A and B inputs. The Red and Yellow turn on when there is output from the sum and carry modules. Build it by dragging components from the box below to the slots above. Then add with it. If your sum is over 255, however, beware of what is called overflow.
After you assemble the bulbs and boxes, enter your age using only 0's and 1's on the green row A. Enter the number 20 using only 0's and 1's on the blue row B. (Some students complain that they age 20 years taking this course. I prefer saying that you mature 20 years mentally.) The red bulbs show the sum of the green and blue rows. Send me a snapshot of this sum and receive 7 easy points. Before you start this assignment, you may want to wait until you finish the next assignment first. The next assignment is about number bases...
