Use HoverSnap
HOW TO USE HOVERSNAP
Now that you have installed and setup HoverSnap, you can begin to use it.
START HOVERSNAP
Look on your Desktop for the HoverSnap camera icon.
Click on the camera icon.
Up pops the HoverSnap control panel.
Click the Hide button.
This keeps HoverSnap resident in memory
till you turn off your computer,
but the window stays hidden from view.
If you restart your computer, and you want to use HoverSnap,
click the HoverSnap shortcut on the Desktop to activate it again.
If HoverSnap is resident in memory,
you will see its camera icon in the lower right corner of your screen.
If you click this icon, the control panel for HoverSnap becomes visible.
CAPTURE IMAGE
First you decide what part of the screen you want to capture.
Let's say, for example, you want to capture your doodle image.
+
Hold down the CTRL key while pressing the Print Screen key...
Like so...
...and a big plus sign pops up. (Well, maybe not that big.)
Drag the plus sign from the upper left corner to the bottom right corner of the image.
As you drag the mouse diagonally, a dashed rectangle will grow to encompass the image.
When you let go, the image may disappear,
but it is saved to the capture folder
with the date and time as its default filename
My capture folder is My Pictures.
I made my doodle on February 2nd 2006 at 3:21:41 PM.
Next, you want to change this default filename.
Click on the dated name.
Wait 1 second.
Click again.
Type in the new name.
IMPORTANT!
Notice how I named my file:
- Alias = wHolt
- Dash = -
- Filename = Sailboat
- Extension = .gif
|
Alias-Filename.gif
This naming convention is necessary
so you can distinguish your file from others'.
Notice! There are NO SPACES in the filename.
Also, there are no illegal characters in the filename.
UPLOAD IMAGE
Go to finite.editme.com.
Log in on the right side menu.
Click PIX page on the left side menu.
Click Attachments on the right side menu.
This takes you to the Attachments list for the PIX page.
Scroll down, or press the End button,
and go to the bottom of the page.
At the bottom of the list, click one of the Browse buttons...
And browse for the image you want to upload.
My image is in My Pictures.
Click on the image or its filename to hilite it.
Then click the Open button.
This copies the filename into the filename box.
You may upload as many as 5 files at a time
by browsing for more files.
After you have copied the filename,
click the Submit button to upload your file...
Notice that your file containing your image is now listed.
Because you put your Alias as a prefix to your filename,
all your attachments are listed together,
and will not overwrite other files with a similar filename.
INSERT IMAGE
WAIT! You are not done yet...
No one can see your picture.
You must insert it somewhere.
Go to the page where you want to display your picture.
For example, I want to display my sailboat doodle on the Doodles page...
I scroll down to the bottom of the Doodles page,
and click Comment on this Page.
Up pops a Comment box
where you will
write answers,
ask questions, and
show your pictures.
To insert your image, click on the Green Tree icon.
In the Image URL box,
I carefully typed in my picture's filename
and where I attached it:
files/Pix/wHolt-Sailboat.gif
You will do the same, substituting your Alias and filename:
files/Pix/Alias-myImage.gif
BEWARE!
The letters in your URL are case-sensitive, Case-Sensitive, CASE-SENSITIVE!
This means you must put uppercase letters where uppercase letters go,
and lowercase letters where lowercase letters go,
or your image will not be found!
After entering your Image URL, enter an Image description.
When you click in the box labeled Image description,
your image will appear below in the Preview box,
or you did something wrong.
Go back and check. We will wait for you...
Did you type the Image URL correctly?
When your image appears, click the Insert button...
And you are back to the Comment box with inserted image.
Label your image if necessary.
Select a font of your choice from the Font-family menu.
If you use the Lucida Console or Courier New fonts,
your spacing will look the same after you submit your comments.
After commenting, click the Submit button.
You have now successfully placed an image in a comment box on the wiki!
WOW! Congratulations!
To add more images, or edit your comments, click the [Edit] button,
and repeat the process as many times as needed.
Now that you have read the book, see the movie...
